Happytime Movie Murders
WEEKEND GUIDE
Here's a handy guide for what's opening today at a theater near you!
Boy, the bloom is really off the rose in regards to Melissa McCarthy. After coming out swinging with great performances in Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy(all directed by Paul Feig, mind you), she has made a string of poor decisions, mostly in collaborations with husband Ben Falcone, that have seen her plummet from the A-list. The novelty of watching Sookie St. James fall down and cuss a lot wore off years ago. This weekend, see her fall down and cuss a lot AT PUPPETS!

A PG rated film about an emormous robotic dog created by the military to protect tomorrow's soldiers. Ehhhhhh. I don't understand these kinds of films. Clearly, plenty of money was put into it, and it won't make a fraction back. Who green lights and finances flicks like A. X. L. This reminds me of something I would have found on the Disney Channel in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in 1994. Hard pass.

John Cho(ROLDY!) stars in this cyber thriller about a man whose 16 year old daughter disappears. After a heartbreaking 37 hours without a single lead, the father begins to scour her laptop looking for any tiny breadcrumbs that might send him down the right path. Searching is receiving pretty great reviews right out of the gate and I've even seen the mystery elements compared to Alfred Hitchcock. You have my attention.

Based on the best selling autobiography, Papillon stars Charlie Hunnam as Henri "Papillon" Charríere, a safecracker framed for murder and sentenced to live out his life on Devil's Island, a notorious penal colony. Here, he forms and unlikely bond with counterfeiter Louis Dega(Rami Malek) who agrees to help him escape in exchange for protection. Sounds like it could be a really fun time. I've been less than impressed with Hunnam's big screen appearances, but Rami Malek's involvement makes me happy. Fans of Mr. Robot have known how good Malek is for a while. I think that by year's end, everyone else will know, too.
