Comic Con 2018 Movie Trailers

Over the past 20 years or so, San Diego's annual Comic Con has transformed from a haven for comic book fans to geek out over their favorite anime, comics, and toys, into an enormous gathering for fans of literally anything in the pop culture lexicon to come face to face with the franchises they love and maybe catch a glimpse of what's next.

Outside of the Super Bowl, there's no better place to view the movie trailers of next year's biggest movies, especially those with roots in nerd culture. This year was no exception, as we received trailers for M. Night Shamaylan's Glass, Shazam, Aquaman, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, Robin Hood, and more. With Marvel taking the year off to pat themselves on the back, will anybody step up to the plate?

Personally, I felt a bit let down by almost all of this year's trailers, although admittedly I was hardly hyped for any of them going in. I really wanted to like the trailer for Godzilla and I just couldn't get there. I'm astounded that Harry Potter diehards are so thirsty for more that they're willing more Fantastic Beasts films into existence. There's a reason that Aquaman is the running joke of the superhero universe and Justice League followed by the Aquaman trailer has done next to nothing to eradicate that. Hell, Entourage got a whole season out of what a putz he is.

My question to you is, what was your biggest takeaway from the SDCC 2018 trailers?

For me, I think it'd be DC taking a step in the right direction by finally adding some levity to its superhero fare with Shazam, whose trailer had me smiling and feeling hopeful. Zachary Levi, where the hell have you been? I still haven't lost the bad taste that Justice League left in my mouth.
