WEEKEND GUIDE: OCTOBER 12TH 2018

Here's a handy guide to what's opening today in a theater near you!

First Man

It looks as if Oscar season is kicking off a little early this year as La La Land director Damien Chazelle reteams with star Ryan Gosling to tell the story of Neil Armstrong's journey to take the first steps on the moon. Throw in Golden Globe and Emmy award winning actress Claire Foy as Armstrong's wife, Janet, and you'll get undoubtedly one of the best LOOKING space exploration films. Space flicks have never really been my thing, but everything I'm reading about this one is that it deserves to be seen in IMAX. Baby Goose in space...check it out!

Bad Times at the El Royale

Ah, I just love pulp flicks like this, in which a group of oddball strangers must overcome the odds together. Conversely, they may be tasked with being the last one standing. You've seen it before in films like Clue, Identity, The Hateful Eight, From Dusk Til Dawn, etc. The model works and it's usually a blast. Putting on their best character acting hats for El Royale are Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, and Jon Hamm. Hamm's film career has been criminally underwhelming, so here's hoping he gets something meaty to sink his teeth into.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Naaaaah. I didn't watch the original Goosebumps and I'll watch almost anything with Jack Black. I watched Year One. I watched Gulliver's Travels. I watched Envy. IN THEATERS! Jack Black isn't in the sequel. You can't replace Jack Black with Wendi McClendon-Covey and expect to get more eyeballs on your product. Bottom line, it's a horror movie for kids. 1. I hate horror movies and 2. I'm 39. This ain't for me. I hope that it doesn't let you guys down, though
